Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and workers paid homage by garlanding the statue of party founder and former chief minister NT Rama Rao on his death anniversary at Beach Road here on Tuesday.

Former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao described NTR as a symbol of ‘pride of Telugus’ who came to power within nine months of forming the party. He said that he was the first chief minister who gave women a share in family property.

Srinivasa Rao also recalled NTR encouraging youth to join politics and his concern for the poor. He said TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu is following in his footsteps and striving to achieve his ideals.

TDP Parliamentary District President Palla Srinivasa Rao recalled the contribution of NTR for the welfare of weaker sections. He said that the contribution of the party founder in the progress of the state would be made accessible to the people.

Responding to a query from a journalist, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that there was still a lot of time for the 2024 general elections. He said the party has a high-level committee to decide the way forward in the next elections.

Later, a memorial meeting was held at the TDP office at Ram Nagar in the city. A blood donation camp was also organized by TDP Visakhapatnam South Constituency Wing.
