Alipore Court Civil Judge S Roy said, “It is hereby declared that the alleged marriage between the plaintiff and the defendant in Bodrum, Turkey on 19/06/2019 is not legally valid.”

Zain and Nusrat got married in June 2019 in the picturesque Turkish city of Bodrum, which was followed by a wedding party with relatives and close friends.

But earlier this year Nusrat had claimed that she had not married Jain and it was just a live-in relationship. The marriage was not legal and they have been separated for a long time, she maintained.

In a detailed statement, the Trinamool Congress MP from Basirhat had said, “Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. Also, since it was an inter-religious marriage, it was allowed under the Special Marriage Act.” Verification is required.India, what happened, according to the court of law, it is not a marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship.

“Thus, the question of divorce doesn’t arise. Our separation happened long ago, but I didn’t talk about it because I wanted to keep my personal life to myself. Thus, my actions based on ‘separation’ Shouldn’t be questioned. Media or anyone to whom I am not related.”

Subsequently, Jain filed a annulment suit calling their marriage ‘invalid’, stating that they had lived together as ‘husband and wife’ since their union in 2019, but their ‘best. Despite ‘efforts’, his attitude towards him changed within a year.

Jain had filed the case even before the actress-turned-politician became pregnant. It was learned that Jain had sent a divorce notice in February this year. After Nusrat became pregnant, Jain claimed that he was not the father of the child.

The issue sparked debate after BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted a video showing Nusrat’s swearing-in ceremony, claiming that it shows her as married.

He said, “The personal life of TMC MP Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain, whom she is married to or with whom she is living, should not be anyone’s concern. But she is an elected representative and it is on record in Parliament that she has spoken to Nikhil Jain. She is lying on the Table of the House,” Malviya had tweeted.

BJP MP Sanghamitra Maurya had criticized Nusrat for giving misleading information about her marital status in her affidavit for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where she declared herself legally married.

Trinamool, while defending Nusrat in this matter, had called it ‘private’.

Trinamool general secretary Kunal Ghosh had said, “Nushrat Jahan is well established and she is a professional. Some issues related to his personal life have come to the fore, but he has nothing to do with the party or the organisation. The party is being held. Keeping a close eye on the developments. BJP should not do politics on this.”
