Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang has revealed in a detailed interview that autonomous vehicles will be in vogue all over the world. He believes that 2022 is the inflection point for the development and adoption of autonomous vehicles and that by 2025, Nvidia will also be deploying its software on a large scale. By 2025, Nvidia will begin monetizing its software by collecting licenses with revenue sharing agreements with car companies.

“I’m sure we’ll have autonomous vehicles all over the world. They all have their own operating domains. And some of them are within the confines of a very large warehouse. They call them AMRs, autonomous walking robots. You get them. inside walled factories, and so they could move stuff and inventory around,” Huang told VentureBeat.

The Nvidia CEO’s comments come on the heels of his failed attempt to acquire ARM from SoftBank, as the proposed deal faced universal negative backlash from regulatory authorities around the world. ARM, which designs chipsets and licenses its designs to countless companies around the world, is probably the world’s last fabless and neutral chip design firm. Its importance is so significant because its designs are used in almost everything from connected cars, autonomous cars, smartphones, tablets, PCs, IoT products to wearables.

Huang believed that the failed ARM bid didn’t affect Nvidia in the slightest and from a long-term perspective he believed its autonomous division would be one of its biggest businesses. He said Nvidia will continue to use ARM’s designs for its 20-year license and it will use it across its product portfolio with new CPU designs already in development.

“It’s going to be a big year for us. And then next year, it’s going to be even bigger next year. And in 2025, when we deploy our own for software, where we share revenue with the car companies. And So if the license was $10,000, we shared 50-50. If it’s a subscription base of $1,000 or $100 per month, we share 50-50. I guess now I’m pretty sure that autonomous vehicles are ours. will be one of the biggest businesses,” he said.
