Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik On Friday, he stressed on removing middlemen from the agri-supply chain which will ensure direct linking of farmers to the market and help in increasing their income.
while inaugurating Orissa In the Agriculture Conference-2021 on video conferencing, the Chief Minister said that the development of agriculture and empowerment of farmers is the priority of the state government.
“We must respond to market dynamics. We need to streamline their connectivity with aggregators and processors to play a role as producers. We need to remove middlemen, who do not add value to the supply chain, Naveen said on the occasion.
Leading private players in the agribusiness and food processing sectors such as Adani-Wilmer Ltd., Tata Agriculture, Parle, Amuli, Coffee Board of India, Big Basket joined the conclave which was organized to connect farmers directly to the national and global market. The conclave also aimed to provide traditional, indigenous and nutritious products of the state to gain prominence in the global market.
Outlining the state government’s investor-friendly policies for agri-business players, Naveen opened the doors of the state to national and global players across sectors to invest in the state.
Odisha is now a major producer of cereals including millets, vegetables, fruits, spices, fish, seafood and poultry products and some of the major products which are available for value addition are seafood, Cashew, organic millet, turmeric, coffee, black pepper, mango, jackfruit, sweet potato, tamarind and honey.
Certain products such as Kandhamal turmeric, Similipal honey and Koraput Coffee The Chief Minister said that it has created its own brand value across the world for its exceptional qualities.
Appreciating the role of the farming community in strengthening the country’s economy, the Chief Minister said that the farmer-centric approach of the State Government supported by various schemes and programs is yielding results.
“There is considerable evidence of local surplus of agricultural and horticultural produce. We can work together with agri-players to ensure that proper pre-harvest and post-harvest protocols are followed by the farming community. I want the farmers of my state to use advanced technology,” Naveen said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the development of the state’s agriculture and economy despite frequent occurrence of natural calamities and mentioned that Odisha has attained self-sufficiency in food production and is the third largest contributor to the public distribution system of the country. “It is now clear that the agriculture sector is a silver lining in the current COVID-19 pandemic situation,” he said.

As part of the conclave, officials from various departments like agriculture, fisheries and animal resource development and food supply and consumer welfare held discussions with agribusinesses to explore business opportunities in the state.
