Odisha: Leader of Opposition ‘pushed’ woman Chamak during BJP’s protest

Odisha’s Leader of Opposition Jainarayan Mishra on Wednesday set off a protest after a woman police officer allegedly jolted him during a BJP protest in Sambalpur. Mishra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Sambalpur, however, rubbished the allegations and accused Anita Prime, in-charge of Dhanupali police station, of punching. Both have lodged police complaints against each other.

The incident took place during a BJP protest in front of the District Collector’s office in Sambalpur. The party is leading a state-wide agitation over the “deteriorating” law and order situation, under which the protest was held.

Pradhan claimed that he and Mishra had a face-off when BJP workers were trying to enter the campus, after which Mishra asked who he was.

Prime said, “When I revealed my identity, they accused me of bribery and fraud. When I asked why he was making such allegations, he told me.

However, Mishra rejected the allegation, saying he came forward after hearing that the police was “harassing” the woman in the case.

He said, “But the police officer (chief) told me that I have been speaking a lot against the police and reprimanded me. But I didn’t shock them. Since, allegations have been leveled against the police, they hatched a conspiracy. I do not know them.”
