Odisha ties up with industry body FICCI for the upcoming Make in Odisha Conclave

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India]July 29 (ANI): The Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha and industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) signed a MoU to make the latter a national industry partner for the Make in Odisha Conclave 2022. Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary Industries, Government of Odisha underlined that “Make in Odisha” is the most entrepreneurial program in Odisha, which attracts investors, entrepreneurs and industrialists alike.

“The preceding two developments have already had a tremendous impact by making Odisha the preferred investment destination. This trend will continue this year as well and the conclave will scale new heights, bringing in more investment and employment opportunities in the state.”

Speaking about the Make in Odisha Conclave, Pratap Keshari Deb, Minister of Industries, MSME and Energy, Government of Odisha, said: “This is going to be the third edition of the Make in Odisha Conclave. The first edition in 2016 saw an overwhelming response with an investment intent of over Rs 2 lakh crore.

The minister also said that “the state is making it one of the fastest growing economies in India with a growth of 10.1 per cent. Manufacturing sector with 56 per cent share in industrial Gross Value Added will grow at 14.3 per cent in 2021-22.” While the mining sector with 21 per cent share registered a growth of 18.1 per cent.

He also drew attention to the fact that Odisha has become the destination of choice for industries in metallurgical and allied sectors due to the benefits of natural resources and ecosystem.

The Odisha government has taken steps to broaden the industrial ecosystem in the state, with a focus on sectors such as chemicals and petrochemicals, textiles and apparel.

Speaking about natural resources, the Minister said that Odisha has 96 per cent of India’s chromite reserves, 92 per cent nickel reserves, 53 per cent bauxite, 45 per cent manganese, 35 per cent iron-one and 23 per cent coal reserves.

“This has made Odisha the largest producer of steel, stainless steel, ferro alloys, alumina and aluminium in India.”

Arun Chawla, Director General, FICCI focused on the investment potential in all sectors, proactive approach of the state government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and ease of doing business as the key strengths of Odisha.

Chawla further mentioned that “FICCI will leverage its regional expertise; tremendous industry connect and experience to make the event successful.” (ANI)
