With the continuous discharge of flood water from the upper reaches of Karnataka at Bhairavnitippa (BT) project in Gummagutta mandal, 35 km from Kalyanadurga in Anantapur district, Irrigation Department officials are closely monitoring the flow to release excess water into the Vedavati river. are.

According to the information, after a gap of five years, the BT project with a storage capacity of 1 tmc is getting 2,300 cusecs of water daily for a week. While the project FRL level is 1,655 feet, flood waters have taken the scale to 1,650 feet. Officials say the last such development was in October 2017.

Irrigation officials, in coordination with the revenue and police departments, have issued alerts in the villages along the banks of Vedavati, warning the public not to go near the rivers. Officials said that in case of emergency, the gates of the project would be removed in a day or two.

Meanwhile, the Parigi irrigation tank in Sri Sathya Sai district has been receiving flood water from the upper areas for the past one week. Several bridges adjacent to the tank overflowed on Friday morning. The Kundu river, a tributary of the Penna, is also reported to have a significant inflow of flood water.

Officials said the current situation is being monitored round the clock.
