Ola sold 60,000 electric scooters in a day, 4 every second: CEO Bhavish Agarwal

Agarwal said in his post that India is committed electric vehicles (EVS) and that it was rejecting petrol. He added that ever since the company started selling electric scooters, they have been selling at an alarmingly fast pace, reaching a sales rate of around 4 scooters per second. September 16th is the last day of the sale and shopping will close at midnight.

In the tweet, Agarwal said: “India is committed to EVs and rejecting petrol! We sold 4 scooters/sec at peak and sold scooters worth 600Cr+ in one day! Today is the last day, shopping will be closed at midnight. So lock this introductory price and shop on Ola app before selling!”

On the same tweet he replied, “At 600 cr, Ola sold more than the entire 2W industry yesterday!” For context, this shows sales of around 60,000 electric scooters.

In a separate blog post, Agarwal said that in the last few months since the reservations started, lakhs of people have bought Ola S1 and S1 Pro. Since the start of sales on September 15, the company has managed to sell electric scooters worth Rs 600 crore in a span of 24 hours. According to Agarwal, this is equivalent to the entire 2W industry being sold in a day. He further said that these numbers were beyond his expectations. He then urged customers to make the most of their remaining time and book their scooters on the Ola app by locking the introductory prices.

“This response is well beyond our expectations and given our production plans in the coming months, Today it will be last day For consumers to buy Ola S1 and S1 Pro scooters. Those who have already booked can shop tonight until midnight, at which time there will be a shopping window close. So I encourage you to make your booking today and lock in this introductory price,” said Agarwal.

Talking about the extent to which EVs can potentially enter the Indian market, Agarwal said, “Yesterday also established that with the right product, there is a huge demand and massive scale demand for two wheeler EVs in India. Apart from selling electric scooters, Ola also plans to set up around 1 lakh charging stations across 400 cities in India. Ola gave its customers a chance to choose from online financing options as well as color preferences before finalizing the pre-delivery bookings, which were to begin in October.

The scooter can be purchased only on the Ola app, with booking option starting at Rs 499. An advance payment of Rs 20,000 was also to be made. In terms of pricing for the scooter, in most states, the price was Rs 99,999 for the Ola S1 and Rs 129,999 for the Ola S1 Pro. Prices vary in other states like Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
