Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil NaduDelhi, Karnataka and Gujarat are emerging as states and union territories of concern based on weekly cases and positivity, said Luv Agarwal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
The Center has also written to eight states and UTs to step up testing, strengthen hospital preparedness, increase the pace and coverage of the COVID immunization campaign and strictly enforce restrictions to contain the spread of Covid-19 cases. Rapid growth is observed. The states are Haryana, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal and Jharkhand. In view of the recent increase in domestic travel, states have been asked to remain vigilant.
Officials said there was no need to panic as the country is largely prepared in terms of vaccination coverage, health infrastructure and services, but cautioned against complacency. “As a nation we have experience and huge shield of very high coverage of vaccines. There is no need to panic but to be prepared, responsible and disciplined. Paul said.
About 90% of the adult population is now covered by at least the first dose of COVID vaccines, while 63% have received both.
