Omicron traits: Study identifies these ‘5’ top signs for new variant

Runny nose, headache, fatigue (either mild or severe), sneezing and sore throat are the top five symptoms reported by patients infected with the Omicron COVID-19 variant, a COVID-19 symptom tracking study in the UK has revealed.

Amid the new version of the outbreak, hundreds of thousands of people in London were asked to report their symptoms to the app as part of the ZOE symptom tracking study. An analysis of cases between December 3 and 10 showed that ‘predominantly’ cold-like symptoms – runny nose, headache fatigue (either mild or severe), sneezing and sore throat – are the most common symptoms of the Omicron type.

“To get a first look at Omicron’s potential symptom profile, this week ZOE conducted a preliminary analysis of symptom data for positive cases in London. London was chosen because of the greater prevalence of Omicron compared to other regions,” the report said.

To compare Delta and Omicron, London data was selected from a week where Delta was dominant (03–10.10.2021) and compared to the most recent data (03–10.12.2021). This preliminary analysis found no apparent difference in early symptoms (three days after testing) between Delta and Omicron.

Professor Tim Spector, lead scientist of the ZOE COVID Study, said, “As our latest data shows, symptoms of omicron are mainly cold symptoms, runny nose, headache, sore throat and sneezing, so people are advised to stay at home.” Because it may well be COVID.” And added, “We’re seeing two to three times more mild infections in people with boosters in omicron regions than we do in delta type areas, but they are still very protective and an important weapon.”

Omicron will be major strain in UK by Christmas

The epidemiologist further warned, Omicron is set to be the dominant strain in the UK by Christmas, and cases in the new year could reach higher heights than anything we have ever seen before.

Cases are rising rapidly in London, but this will soon slow down, as people change their behaviour, such as wearing face masks again, canceling parties and working more from home, he said as precautionary measures And added, “Hopefully people now recognize the cold-like symptoms that seem to be a key feature of Omicron. These are the changes that will slow the spread of the virus.”
