Manoj Rath, scholar and president of Utkal Vidvat Parishad, said, “The register has predicted signs of good health, although there is a shortage of man-made food and a rise in prices for the people of Odisha. This year women are more empowered. Will be created. More opportunities. A possible natural calamity is predicted, but the people of Odisha will show resilience as always and overcome these minor challenges this year.”

A series of religious and cultural activities marked the day when people distributed and tasted Pana – the traditional drink.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other dignitaries greeted the people on Odia New Year and Maha Bishuba Sankranti. The PM tweeted, “May the spirit of brotherhood be carried forward in the society and good health to all. May the new year be filled with lots of happiness. May the spirit of brotherhood in our society be strong and everyone is in the best of health.”
In a video message, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wished prosperity to all on the Odia New Year with the blessings of Lord Jagannath. People in large numbers thronged the temples, offered special prayers and celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman.
At the Jagannath Temple in Puri, special rituals were performed in which astrologers recited the new register in front of the trinity of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Goddess Subhadra. Traditional wrestlers came out of Jag Ghar, Akhadas (training houses) and gymnasiums to showcase their wrestling skills after worshiping Lord Hanuman.
Thanks to social networking sites, youth actively participated in the celebration of Oriya New Year.
