On Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Chinese minister said, ‘Players with fire…’

Despite China’s warning Nancy Pelosi stepped down on Taiwanese soil, the US House speaker said her country could not stand to “threate” Taiwan and democracy by the Communist Party of China (CCP).

“We cannot stand as the CCP moves to endanger Taiwan and democracy,” Pelosi said in an op-ed for The Washington Post newspaper. She landed in Taiwan on Tuesday night as part of a visit by a Congress delegation to the Indo-Pacific region to face the threat from China.

“The Taiwan Relations Act set out America’s commitment to a democratic Taiwan, providing the framework for an economic and diplomatic relationship that quickly flourished into a major partnership. It established a deep friendship rooted in shared interests and values. Promoted: self-determination and self-determination government, democracy and freedom, human dignity and human rights,” she said.

The US House speaker, who is second in line to the Oval Office after the US vice president, said the US must stand with Taiwan, an island of resilience.

In response to the US delegation’s visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that American politicians who “play with fire” on the Taiwan issue “will have no good ending”, according to a ministry statement cited by Reuters.

He did not specify any American politician. China opposes possible visit to Taiwan by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Describing Taiwan as an inseparable part of China, the statement said, “(The visit) has seriously affected the political foundations of Sino-US relations, grossly infringing on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has come out in support of China’s aggressive stance on the issue, with US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi calling a visit to Taiwan a clear provocation. The ministry said in a statement that China has the right to take measures to protect its sovereignty.

Moscow had previously warned Washington that the visit would put the United States on a collision course with Beijing.

Beginning in the evening of August 2, Chinese armed forces will launch military operations around Taiwan, long-range live firing in the Taiwan Strait, and conduct conventional missile tests in the maritime zone on the eastern side of the island. ,

“These actions are a reasonable deterrent to the recent large escalation of US negative actions on the Taiwan issue and a dire warning to pro-Taiwan independence forces,” Xi Yi said.

Pelosi’s plane landed in Taiwan amid growing security threats from China. Beijing has warned the US that it will “pay the price” if Pelosi visits Taiwan, the highest level of US visits in more than two decades.

Since reports of the US House speaker’s visit were released last month, Beijing has warned of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, saying it would take strong action and retaliate if the US side insists on going ahead with the visit.
