A man and a woman from a village in Karnataka’s Mysuru district were tied to an electric pole on November 25 and thrashed by the latter’s ex-husband and brother-in-law on suspicion of their love affair.

Later the police registered a case and arrested one of the accused.

According to the Kovalande police, the woman has three children from her marriage to a local. But the two separated five years ago, after which she was living with her parents. The 30-year-old woman worked as a laborer and had befriended a 24-year-old man from a neighboring village.

The incident is of November 25 when the woman invited the youth to her house for tea. Her ex-husband and his brother came to know about this and entered the house and attacked both of them and tied them to the electric pole. After this, both of them fought for several hours.

A video of the incident later went viral. In the minute-long clip, locals can be seen surrounding and watching the two. Even after repeatedly shouting for help, no one came forward to help him.

When the village heads came to know about the incident, they intervened and released both of them. He also tried to defuse the situation by holding a meeting on the matter the next day.

According to Kovalande police, they got information only on Friday morning, after which they arrested the ex-husband from the village. His brother is said to be absconding. A police officer from Kovalande station said, “We have registered a case and our investigation is underway.”
