team this day India Under the leadership of Virat Kohli They broke their Australia woes by registering Down Under, their first Test win in more than a decade. Before their 2018 Adelaide win, the last time India beat an Aussies in a red-ball game was 2008. Perth was the venue and spin wizard Anil Kumble was leading the visiting team.

In 2018, veteran campaigner Ravichandran Ashwin ensured India’s victory by taking three wickets on the final day, including the last scalp from Josh Hazlewood. India defeated Australia by 31 runs to register their first Test win in Adelaide since 2003. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami also played a key role in India’s historic win as they shared six wickets between Ishant.

Sharma took one wicket in the fourth innings.

Chasing 323 in the final innings, Australia’s batting line-up failed to match the Indian bowlers as they lost their top five batsmen for 115 runs. However, the Australian tailenders fought valiantly on the final day and declared India unworthy of victory.

Nathan Lyon (39 not out), Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc made significant contributions with the bat to disappoint the visiting side 28-28. However, in the final session, they lost badly after Ashwin ended the Australian resistance after Hazlewood was dismissed for 13.

In notable performances from the Australian side, Shaun Marsh scored his tenth fifty but was dismissed by Bumrah for 60. Then Australian captain Tim Paine also fought tooth and nail as he extended his innings to 41 runs before becoming Bumrah’s second victim.

Indian captain Virat Kohli had won the toss and opted to bat but his openers KL Rahul (2 runs) and Murali Vijay (11 runs) could not support their decision as they were cheaply removed from the attack.

India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara scored a hard-fought 123 from 246, with the tourists scoring 250 in their first innings.

In reply, India bowled out Australia for 235 and took a weak lead of 15 runs.

India did much better in their second innings and scored 307 runs to set Australia a tough target of 323 runs in the final innings.

Australia’s chase of 323 was never easy, especially in the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner, but they came close to intimidating India before being bundled out for 291.
