Yavatmal: A BJP leader on Wednesday submitted an application seeking registration of an FIR against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that he had “insulted” Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during his speech at Shiv Sena’s Dussehra rally. The complainant, Yavatmal district BJP president Nitin Bhutada urged the police to register an FIR against Shiv Sena chief Thackeray and take legal action against him for his “inflammatory” speech.

A police officer confirmed the receipt of the application from the BJP leader.

The complaint states that Thackeray used “inflammatory and filthy language” against Hindutva leader Yogi Adityanath during his Dussehra speech on October 25, 2020.

“Thackeray had said how can a Yogi become CM? He should go and sit in a cave. He (Yogi) should be slapped with his chappal (shoes). Yogi has insulted Shivaji Maharaj. Yogi did not have the status to go to Shivaji Maharaj. Yogi should be thrashed with his slippers when he comes to Maharashtra….Yogi would have been hit with chappals,” the application quoted Thackeray as saying.

It said the comments made by Thackeray had the potential to incite unrest and riots in the society.

Bhutada said the BJP would lodge more complaints against CM Thackeray in various police stations in Maharashtra.

Notably, a day after Union minister and BJP MP Narayan Rane used objectionable language against Thackeray, the BJP submitted an application for registration of an FIR against the Maharashtra chief minister.

The Union minister was arrested on Tuesday afternoon during his ‘Jan Aashirwad Yatra’ from Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra to Raigad after his remarks that he accused Chief Minister Thackeray of claiming the year of India’s independence as ignorant. would have slapped.

Rane’s comments had triggered protests by Shiv Sainiks in several cities of Maharashtra.
