One arrested for GST fraud

New Delhi The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has arrested a person for allegedly availing input tax credit on the basis of invoices without actual supply of goods, an official statement said.

The Gurugram unit of DGGI found that a firm based in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh was engaged in using and issuing fake input tax credit without supplying the underlying goods. It was observed that he had made major purchases from another firm already facing investigation for availing ineligible tax credits from various non-existent entities, the statement said.

It also said that the evidence shows that the company in Ghaziabad was involved in obtaining inadmissible tax credit on the basis of invoices received from various firms without actual supply of goods. exceeds the amount of such inadmissible tax credit 52 crore, the statement said. The director of the company was arrested last week and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody, the statement said.

GST authorities are tightening compliance requirements and enforcement efforts to prevent tax evasion. These measures are expected to continue in the coming months as the government tries to make the GST system more efficient.
