‘One India’, Development, Local Connectivity: 5 Important Messages From Amit Shah’s J&K Visit

From meeting Sufi saints to visiting a temple and a gurudwara, Home Minister Amit Shah’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 has given a glimpse of ‘One India’. Shah gave a strong message to all that the country stands with the martyrs and families who lost their loved ones due to terrorism. He told Kashmiris that development is the only key which will take the state to new heights.

Security measures backfired as Shah met the public on separate occasions. He removed the bulletproof glass from his podium to talk openly to the people. He met locals after a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center on Monday.

Here are five messages sent by the Home Minister during his visit:

Stands with martyrs and civilian families

During his three-day visit, he met the families of security forces killed in terror incidents and paid tributes to the martyrs. First on his agenda was to meet the family of Police Inspector Parvez Ahmed and soon after landing he met the family. He offered his wife a job. The inspector was killed by terrorists in June when he was returning after offering prayers at a mosque. Later, after the security review meeting, he met the families of martyrs and civilians killed by terrorists in the Valley. “I met the families of security personnel killed fighting terrorists and civilians killed in terrorist attacks. I assure every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir that the Modi government and the entire country stands firmly with them. India will not be afraid of any such cowardly violence.

‘One India’

On the last day of the yatra, Shah accompanied Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to Gurdwara Digiana Ashram in Jammu. Later he went to Kheer Bhavani Durga Temple in Ganderbal. “I had the privilege of having darshan of Mata Kheer Bhavani. It is such an unbroken center of faith of Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters across the country, which inspires the entire country. There is a wonderful power in this holy place, which is felt by coming here. Jai Maa Kheer Bhavani!” he tweeted. On his last day he met and discussed Sufi saints.

“Kashmir has been the focal point of India’s rich heritage from the very beginning. Sufi culture is also part of the same prosperity, which is a symbol of peace and liberalism. In this episode today I met Sufi saints in Srinagar and had extensive discussions to restore peace and coexistence in Kashmir.

security review

While civilian killings have taken place in the Valley in the last three weeks, Shah held a top-level security meeting with all forces and agencies at the Raj Bhavan. He sent a message to all the forces that after the abrogation of Article 370 there has been a decline in terrorism, stone pelting has reduced, but the forces should remain aggressive against terrorists and work with each other. “Had a security review meeting with senior officers of Armed Forces, Central Police Forces, J&K Police and security agencies in Srinagar today. Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi ji, we are committed to the overall development of J&K and to completely eliminate infiltration and terrorism,” Shah tweeted. He also visited the border post and went to further areas. Visited the border post in Maqwal, Jammu today and met our BSF jawans and spent some time with them. The dedication of our security guards towards the defense of India is truly amazing. On behalf of all the countrymen, I would like to thank our security forces. Salute the bravery and express my gratitude, tweeted on the second day of my visit.

development is important

Shah inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu on the second day of his visit. The new campus of IIT has been built at a cost of Rs 210 crore. The Home Minister said that if 45,000 youths were engaged in the service of the poor of Jammu and Kashmir, then terrorists could do nothing wrong and these youths would change Jammu and Kashmir in no time. Apart from this 25,000 government jobs were given by the Services Selection Board, out of which 7,000 people had already been given appointment letters. Talking about the plans ahead in the sector, he said that an investment of Rs 12,000 crore has been received so far and an investment of about Rs 51,000 crore will be received before 2022. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, Metro is going to start soon in Jammu and Srinagar and Jammu airport is also being developed at a cost of ₹700 crores. Under the new helicopter policy, we have also started the work of connecting every district by creating helipads in every district of J&K,” Shah tweeted after inaugurating various development projects in J&K.

connecting with local people

While security forces were keeping a close watch on everyone, Shah surprised everyone after addressing a public rally and met locals in Srinagar who had gathered for his rally, despite several threats being reported. “I was taunted, condemned… today I want to talk to you openly, that’s why there is no bulletproof shield or security here… Farooq sahab has suggested me to talk to Pakistan but I I will talk to the youth and people of the valley. Shah said after removing the bulletproof glasses. He also went to a civilian’s house near the India-Pakistan border and met the family members. He spoke to a villager and took his mobile number to his home. Saved in phone.
