OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Review | Wallet-lite challenger among premium TVs

OnePlus is far from the traditional choice for customers looking to invest in a high-end TV, but OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro Launched This month the Chinese electronics maker furthered its premium Q series. The company first launched this series in 2019.

The highlight of the latest OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro is that it pulls together stunning 4K QLED powered visuals, cinema-quality sound and a 65-inch screen. All this for less than Rs 1 lakh. That’s what we experienced when we tried this market disruptor out for ourselves.

design

Weighing around 30 kgs, the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro doesn’t come close to any flat screen TV. There is a multi-layered backing that supports the 65-inch screen and keeps it stable on the stand, but it adds to the weight of the product.

OnePlus has opted for a fixed soundbar on the central base of the TV. Sleek and silver, it matches the stylish look of the device while remaining compact. The OnePlus logo lights up and flashes on the right side of the soundbar. The TV is not as bezel-less as might be expected.

viewing experience

As soon as you hit ‘play’, you can be assured that the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro delivers a premium experience that the countless visitors to your home would love to have for their own.

Whether you’re watching a full-length concert on YouTube, an animated children’s movie on Netflix, or the latest Hindi show on Amazon Prime, the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro ensures a meticulous viewing with atmospheric sound and clear vocals to keep anyone entertained. Even casual watch party can be turned into a fabulous one. an opportunity to remember. With DCI-P3 97% wide color gamut and ΔE ≤ 1.5 color accuracy (in movie mode), we fell in love with the vibrancy of our favorite movies, while also enjoying other offerings for the first time.

However, when we received the television with its default picture and color settings, we were initially shocked by the overly white, saturated actors’ faces that were practically red, and their unnaturally fluid movements. Fortunately, the OnePlus TV offers a plethora of picture modes: Standard, AI Mode, Vivid, Eye Comfort, Sport, Movie, HDR 10+, and Energy Saving. These can be further customized at the individual level. We found that ‘Eye Comfort’ and ‘Movie’ provided the most natural pictures for movies and TV shows, while ‘AI Mode’ resulted in extreme contrast that would be useful for those with nearsightedness. We would suggest shipping the TV with the more natural standard setting so that users don’t have to fiddle with the controls too much.

The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro also offers the ‘Ultra Smooth Motion’ control feature, which users can toggle on to make older movies shot on film appear as if they were captured yesterday with modern technology. If taken to the extreme, the setting can make your movie look like an Indian soap opera. Movie purists generally dislike this setting and even actors such as Tom Cruise have urged audiences to turn it off. OnePlus users also have the option to do the same. Ultra Smooth Motion is enabled as part of the TV’s default settings.

While contrasts are beautifully defined on TV, the varied picture settings help viewers organically relish the details of those shows and movies that were filmed in total darkness. There was almost no lag during our review period and the high-octane action scenes were thrilling to watch.

However, can the new OnePlus television compete with other 65-inch QLED (or similarly designed) rivals from Samsung, Sony and LG? While this will largely depend on the longevity of the product, the answer is that the OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro has put up a spirited battle against premium brand TVs that cost more than twice its price. Although the Q2 Pro’s bulky design disappoints, the visuals put the TV on par with its strongest rivals.

sound experience

If you don’t know what to watch first on your new OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro, we’d recommend a horror movie, because the Horizon Soundbar TV will keep you on edge for days to come. The 40W output from the soundbar and its front speakers ensure clean and immersive speech, vocals and music. Meanwhile, the side facing tweeters create ambiance until the view lightly wraps around you. Finally, the 30W sub-woofer completes the act with thumping bass that leaves the audience enthralled.

To give you an example: While watching the apocalyptic horror flick Bird Box (2018), we at one point couldn’t tell whether the chirping birds were from the soundbar or outside our own window. Technically speaking, the audio fidelity of the Horizon soundbar really takes your breath away.

Despite these features, we still found the surround sound to be a touch more unidirectional than we would have liked. While audio connoisseurs may want a more sophisticated set-up that covers a wider area around the viewer, the Horizon soundbar will impress most other movie buffs.

There’s also a Clarity sound mode, settings for clearer speech, and individual customization options, but these were very subtle and didn’t make much of a difference to the listening experience.

smart features

The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro remote comes with shortcuts to access Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime and YouTube with just the touch of a button.

Device plays on Google TV [Android 11], While users can log in for a more personalized experience and communication options, we found the process to be slow and prone to glitches.

Users can also install the OnePlus Connect app to use their smartphone as a remote controller.

The Speak Now voice assistant integrated with the Google Assistant brilliantly selects movie titles in both English and Indian languages with ease.

Decision

The OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro is a bold and unexpected challenger in the premium segment as it competes with rivals such as Sony and Samsung, offering a dreamy 65-inch TV with QLED-powered visuals and a commendable sound system that Rings in just ₹1. Lakh mark. However, its bulky build and bezels may turn away those who want more beauty products, while others wait to confirm the TV’s lifespan.
