OnePlus working on a foldable phone? CEO Hints Oppo Find N Hinge Can Be Used

Earlier this month Samsung launched its latest foldable smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Soon after Samsung, Xiaomi also launched its Mix Fold 2, and Motorola unveiled the new 2022 Moto Razr in China. Now, it looks like OnePlus is working on a foldable smartphone as well, according to a hint from the company’s CEO Pete Lau.

Lau shared a few pictures on his Twitter, which shows what it takes for a foldable display. “What do you think this is?” Lau, who also serves as Opposition Chief Product Officer said in a tweet. In a subsequent tweet, Lau clarified that the images shared by him are of Oppo Find N. oppo find no The first foldable one from Oppo was showcased last year with a smaller external display and a wider folding display. Lau also linked to a blog post on the OnePlus Community Forum about foldables, asking users what they need from a foldable device.

In the blog post, OnePlus explains what people want and need from a foldable smartphone, further asking people to comment on what they think of the foldable. Now, while none of this points to a foldable smartphone from OnePlus, rumors of a OnePlus foldable date back a few years. It could also be that OnePlus is taking expertise and feedback from Oppo Find N to develop its own foldable smartphone. Nothing can be said for sure now.

Last year, oneplus had filed a patent for a tri-smartphone, similar to the render on the OnePlus blog post shared by Lau. Earlier, the company had teased a foldable smartphone ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 launch last year. In a cryptic tweet from the official Twitter account of OnePlus USA, OnePlus shared a short video clip that shows a foldable-like device with starry animation on the display. Now, this happened to nothing, and while Samsung’s foldable launch last year was more than a prank to divert attention, it was one of the first signs OnePlus showed interest in the foldable segment.
