To keep a check on the air quality in the national capital, the Delhi government will not allow trucks and tempos that do not have CNG to enter Delhi from November 27. The government has allowed schools, educational institutions and offices to start operations. From 29 November onwards, steps have been taken to keep the air clean and less hazardous for students and people out for work.

Environment Minister – Gopal Rai said that from November 27, only CNG and electric vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi except those engaged in essential services. The minister made the announcement after a meeting to review restrictions to tackle air pollution. He said that the entry of vehicles running on other fuels would be banned till December 3. Rai also urged the government employees to use public transport for their commute. “We have recently hired private CNG buses. We have decided to use them to ferry employees from government residential colonies like Gulabi Bagh and Nimri Colony,” he said.

The government will also start shuttle bus service for its employees from Delhi Secretariat to ITO and Indraprastha Metro stations. He also said that the air quality has improved in the last three days. The AQI of the city is the same as the days before Diwali and this step has been taken to maintain this air quality and prevent it from deteriorating further. On 13 November, the city government had ordered the closure of all educational institutions, banning construction and demolition activities and asked its employees to work from home to combat air pollution and reduce its impact on health.
