Oppo teases retractable smartphone camera technology

Oppo has teased a unique retractable smartphone camera technology on Twitter. The Chinese tech company has shared a clip that shows a smartphone with a retractable/pop-up rear camera and hints at how it might be working. The camera module has also been teased to be durable and water resistant. This news comes a few days before the company’s annual tech event, Oppo Inno Day 2021. It will be a two-day event and OPPO is expected to showcase various technology innovations and products.

with a short video deployment of on twitter, Opposition says that its self-developed retractable camera is not as annoying as the pop-up cameras on other smartphones. The video also explains about the working and features of the camera. The camera module hints that the camera will be equipped with a 1/1.56-inch sensor paired with a lens that will have a 50mm focal length and f/2.4 aperture.

The video shows a camera coming out of the module – as we see in point-and-shoot cameras – and then descending to its original position. Water is also sprayed onto the camera, indicating that the module (or phone) is water resistant. It is also suggested to be durable and survive drops. While there is no information on how the camera will work, it is speculated that it could be used to offer optical zoom capabilities.

Oppo will showcase the technology inno world virtual event In China on 14 December. The event will start at 2.30 PM IST on 14th December. The company is expected to showcase products and innovations during the two-day event. The exact details about what Oppo is unveiling are not officially known, but the company is expected to unveil a foldable smartphone from Oppo. Chinese tipster WHYLAB recently posted screenshots of the alleged certification of the Oppo foldable phone from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Weibo.
