Over 20,000 Indian youth stranded in Ukraine, government issues advisory – Times of India

The central government has issued an advisory for students stranded in Ukraine, amid allegations of turning their backs on hard times, for not making arrangements to bring back 20,000 Indian youths, mostly students, back home safely.

Stating that Indians in Ukraine were living in fear and apprehension, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was busy with election campaigns and was not taking care of their security.

In a tweet, he said, “Turning your face in every difficult time… and keeping quiet has become a habit of the Modi government. Our 20,000 Indian youth in Ukraine are forced to face fear, apprehension and life threatening situations.” Hindi. Surjewala asked, “Why were arrangements not made in time to bring them safe? Is this a ‘self-reliant’ mission.”

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine in its latest advisory has described the situation as extremely uncertain.

“Please keep calm and be safe, whether you are in your homes, hostels, residences or in transit… All traveling to Kiev, including those traveling from the western parts of Kiev, are advised to return to their respective homes cities, temporarily, towards safer places, especially along the western border countries,” it said.

Russian troops launched their anticipated attack on Ukraine on Thursday, as President Vladimir Putin rejected international condemnation and sanctions and warned other countries that the consequences of any attempt to intervene would be “never seen”.

Big explosions were heard before dawn in Kiev, Kharkiv and Odessa.

At least 10 students from Karnataka are stuck in Ukraine.

Earlier today, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that at least ten students from the state are stranded in Ukraine, and the government is working with the Indian Embassy there and the Ministry of External Affairs to bring them back home safely.

He said that he will also talk to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in this regard.

“At the time when the war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, about a hundred Indian students were on their way to the airport in two buses and were stranded as the flights could not land. More than 10 are from Karnataka, we are aware of. Collecting them,” Bommai said.
