Over 3.14 lakh vacancies in Indian Railways, 43% to be filled by April

Between 2020 and 2022, around 3.65 crore candidates had applied for the railway recruitment process. As per reports, up to 1,03,769 posts are in the Level 1 category. Around 1.1 crore candidates have applied so far for the Level 1 posts, which include vacancies for Pointman, Electrical Works, Transporter, Signal and Telecom Assistant.

Around 1.25 crore candidates have applied for the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) exams to be held between December 2020 and July 2021. An additional 1.3 crore candidates have applied for the NTPC recruitment examinations of Indian Railways to be held between May 9 and October 11, 2022.

Once the exam is over, the next stage involves Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for vacancies like Transpersons. Male candidates will have to run 1,500 meters in 4.15 minutes while female candidates will have to run 1,000 meters in 5.40 minutes. This physical test is likely to be completed in February.

Before the pandemic, a recruitment test center could easily accommodate 1,000 applicants. Later it was reduced to 200-300 candidates due to strict social distancing norms. corona virus The guidelines and norms have led to an increase in the number of exam days, which has delayed the recruitment process.

Indian Railways has partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), National Computer Institute of technology (NCIT), and Aptech, among others, to conduct computer-based tests for the recruitment process. The report states that the Railways spent around Rs 300 to Rs 400 per candidate at each stage of the exam. The exercise of conducting the exam has cost the Railways more than Rs 1,200 crore.
