Four people have been arrested in the city in three cases and more than 60 kg of ganja has been seized from them.

NIB-CID sources said that after receiving information about smuggling of banned material in a bus from Andhra Pradesh, a special team conducted surveillance near the bus stand on Poonamallee High Road. As a bus came to the spot, a person got down from the bus and was struggling to carry the bag. He was questioned by the police team, who found 24 kg of ganja in the bag.

Based on his confession, the police raided a compound on Chakrapani Street in Koyambedu and seized 36 kg of ganja from his associate Shiva. Police arrested Amburaj and his associate and seized 60 kg of ganja in total.

Police said the drug peddlers were stockpiling the contraband in the hope of re-locking it and later selling it at a higher price.

Meanwhile, Nandambakkam police arrested 23-year-old Karthikeyan alias Pappu of Thulasingapuram for allegedly possessing 1.1 kg of ganja near a public toilet in Kalaignar Nagar. Similarly, Washermenpet police arrested 21-year-old S Sundarasan from near a graveyard in Moolkothalam and seized 1.1 kg of ganja from him.
