The assembly will be attended by 195 member states, including ministers, police chiefs of countries, national central bureau chiefs and senior police officers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the general meeting.

The assembly will run from October 18 to 21.

The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of Interpol and meets once a year to make important decisions related to its functioning.

The meeting is being held in India after a gap of almost 25 years, it was last held in 1997.

India’s proposal to host the Interpol General Assembly in 2022 in New Delhi to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence was accepted by the Assembly with an overwhelming majority.

The event provides an opportunity to showcase the best practices in India’s law and order system to the entire world, the statement said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi and General Secretary Jurgen Stock as well as CBI Director will be present on the occasion.
