Pankaj Tripathi pays tribute to Irrfan Khan: ‘He inspired every actor of his generation’

The film industry was devastated along with his countless fans following the demise of versatile actor Irrfan Khan on April 29, 2020. He made a name for himself through his exceptional acting not only in Bollywood but also in Hollywood.

Now, two years after leaving a void in the film industry, people are remembering the late actor and his remarkable work. Among them was actor Pankaj Tripathi who, like Irrfan, also went to the National School of Drama.

Recalling Irrfan in an interview with ETimes, Pankaj highlighted how the Piku actor used to visit NSD regularly. He shared that Irrfan was his senior in acting school and used to interact with him. “The conversation we had with our seniors was enriching,” he said.

Further, Pankaj spoke about how Irrfan has inspired almost every actor of his generation. The actor also said that whenever he talks about Irrfan, he gets emotional. He said, ‘I can’t talk much about him.

Pankaj underlined that people not only took inspiration for acting from Irrfan but also for on-screen and off-screen behavior and learned how to look at acting. “He has inspired everyone immensely,” Pankaj insisted. He said that Irrfan had a unique approach towards acting and was “breaking the formula.”

Talking about Irrfan’s versatile work, Pankaj said that he has seen around 50-60 films in his life, many of them by Irrfan Khan. He shared that he somehow manages to watch Irrfan’s films as they were enlightening for him. “It was an institution,” he said.

Pankaj said that while the world recognized Irrfan’s work for a long time, his films like Maqbool and Warrior were enough to get acquainted with his potential. He also recalled how he was thinking about the actor a few days back and could not hold back his tears.

Irrfan Khan breathed his last on April 29, 2020 at the age of 53 after battling a rare form of cancer.
