Partha Chatterjee removed from Bengal cabinet

Bengal SSC Recruitment Scam: West Bengal Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee, arrested in the SSC scam, was removed from the state cabinet on Thursday on charges of corruption. As per the latest update, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will now look after the industries and other departments, which are currently held by Chatterjee.

The Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) called a meeting on Thursday as the demand for Chatterjee’s removal grew. TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh demands Chatterjee’s ouster from the cabinet Rs 50 crore in cash was recovered from the properties attached to him.

Echoing him, TMC spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya, whose song ‘Khela hobe’ headlined the party’s 2021 election campaign, also demanded the expulsion of Chatterjee.

He said, “As a party worker, I feel we do not deserve this public humiliation because of one person. The leadership should look into this and expel him from the party.”

The demand for Chatterjee’s removal comes amid an attack on the Trinamool Congress by the opposition BJP and the CPI(M) for not taking any action against him even as a huge amount of cash was recovered from the properties attached to him.

TMC leaders have been raising concerns about public perception regarding recovery of cash and gold. Ghosh had said on Wednesday that Chatterjee had “insulted” the party and “shamed us all”.

Chief Minister Banerjee had recently said that if someone is found guilty, she will not spare the person, even if he is a minister.
