Pawar opposed the plan, Chavan said no step to give houses to the MLAs. Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: NCP President Sharad Pawar On Monday, he opposed CM Uddhav Thackeray’s plan to provide houses in Mumbai to 300 MLAs—MLAs and MLCs—from rural parts of the state. “The decision has been taken by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, but my personal view is that the government should not build houses for MLAs. Instead, the government may create a separate quota for MLAs in the houses built by MHADA,” Pawar said.
However, he said that he did not attach much importance to the criticism of the proposal. The BJP has criticized the move as an “offer” to the MLAs to save the three parties. MVA Government. The decision has also come in for criticism from citizens on social media and elsewhere, who said most of the MLAs were crorepatis and other critics were saying that they were elected for a five-year term and were not permanent government/legislative workers.
Critics have criticized CM Uddhav Thackeray’s decision to provide accommodation for MLAs from outside the Mumbai region. He has questioned the need for MLAs/MLCs to spend a huge amount on houses at a time when the state’s debt has crossed Rs 6.25 lakh crore.
Thackeray had told the Assembly on March 25 that in view of the “difficulty” of the MLAs, especially those from rural areas, his government had decided to provide 300 houses to the MLAs in Goregaon.
According to the records of the Legislature Secretary, out of 366 MLAs in the state (288 from the Vidhan Sabha and 78 from the Council – about 54 to 60 MLAs are from Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai; the rest are from other parts. The CM provides accommodation to all those MLAs). Those who are not residents of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai or Thane.
Thackeray’s argument was that many MLAs from rural areas cannot afford to buy a house in Mumbai, and that the state should build higher income groups. He said that the entire project would be completed by MHADA.
A BJP MLA said Thackeray, worried about the possibility of going from the MVA to the opposition, has decided to retain the ruling alliance.
Meanwhile, the state’s PWD minister Ashok Chavan Said on Monday that he was not aware of any decision of the state to give houses/flats to the MLAs. Chavan’s remarks, made during his visit to the Tuljapur temple in Osmanabad, were contrary to statements made by MVA ministers such as the CM and deputy CM in this regard. Ajit Pawar and Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad.
Awhad had said a few days ago that the houses would not be given free of cost but whoever wanted the flat would have to pay Rs 70 lakh. Ajit Pawar had said that MLAs who do not have any house registered in their name or in their wife’s name, will be given houses. Chavan said, ‘I am not aware of any decision to give houses to MLAs. There was no demand. And that’s not going to happen. The opposition is unnecessarily making this an issue. -Input by Mohammad Akhef in Aurangabad.
