Person with no history of foreign travel found with monkeypox-like symptoms in Himachal Pradesh

A suspected case of monkeypox has been found in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district, health officials said on Friday.

The state health department said in a press statement that the samples of the person have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for confirmation.

The person living in Baddi area showed signs of infection 21 days ago and he is currently recovering.

As a precaution, he has been kept in isolation and surveillance is being done in the surrounding areas, the press statement said.

It states that the person has no history of foreign travel.

Four confirmed cases of monkeypox disease — three from Kerala and one from Delhi — have been reported in the country as on July 27, the central government informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

It said that there have been no deaths from monkeypox in the country.
