Petrol, diesel prices hiked for 5th consecutive day

Petrol and diesel prices across the country on Sunday saw an increase for the fifth consecutive day. With a hike of Rs 0.35, the price of petrol in the national capital increased to Rs 107.59 per litre. Diesel price also saw a hike of Rs 0.35 in Delhi, leading to an increase of Rs 96.32 per liter respectively today.

Mumbai also registered an increase in fuel prices as compared to yesterday. Petrol was hiked by Rs 0.34 and is now priced at Rs 113.46 per litre, while diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 0.38, which is Rs 104.38.

Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 108.11 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 99.43 per litre.

The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai is Rs 104.52 and Rs 100.59 per liter respectively.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of Value Added Tax.

Rising fuel prices in the country are not going to come down immediately. On the issue of supply and demand of oil, the central government is in talks with many oil exporting countries but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices.

A source said on Monday that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has recently raised concerns on the issue of prices, supply and demand for oil for major oil producing countries.

“As international crude oil prices rise, the petroleum ministry has called on the energy ministries of several countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Russia and others,” the source said.
