Petrol, diesel prices hiked again; Costs 30% more than ATF

The price of petrol in Delhi increased to ₹105.84 per liter and in Mumbai reached an all-time high of ₹111.77 per liter.

Petrol and diesel prices were again hiked by 35 paise a liter on Sunday and auto fuels now cost one-third the rate at which aviation turbine fuel (ATF)/jet fuel is sold to airlines.

4th straight day of hike of 35 paise per liter sent petrol and diesel rates record height across the country.

According to the price notification of the state-owned fuel retailers, the price of petrol in Delhi touched an all-time high of ₹105.84 per liter in Mumbai and ₹111.77 per liter in Mumbai.

In Mumbai, diesel now comes for ₹102.52 per litre; Whereas in Delhi its price is ₹ 94.57.

With this hike, petrol is now priced at Rs 100 or more in all state capitals, while diesel has touched the 100 mark in over a dozen states. Diesel crossed the Rs 100 mark in Bengaluru, Daman and Silvassa.

Petrol used in two-wheelers and cars now costs 33% more than the price at which Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) is sold to airlines. The price of ATF in Delhi is ₹79,020.16 per kiloliter or ₹79 per litre.

The most expensive fuel is in the border town of Ganganagar in Rajasthan where petrol comes for ₹117.86 per liter and diesel for ₹105.95.

This is the 16th hike in petrol prices and 19th in diesel prices since the end of the three-week long gap in rate revision in the last week of September.

While the price of petrol is already above Rs 100 per liter in most parts of the country, diesel rates in more than a dozen states/UTs including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh crossed that level. , Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka and Ladakh.

Prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes.

Barring a minor price change policy, state-owned fuel retailers have started passing on major cost events to consumers from October 6.

This is because the international benchmark Brent crude is trading at $84.8 per barrel for the first time in seven years.

A month ago, Brent was trading at $73.51.

Being a net importer of oil, India keeps petrol and diesel prices at par with international prices.

The jump in international oil prices ended a three-week hiatus in rates for petrol on September 28 and diesel on September 24.

Since then, the rates of diesel have increased by Rs 5.95 per liter and that of petrol by Rs 4.65.

Earlier, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 11.44 per liter between May 4 and July 17. The rate of diesel was increased by Rs 9.14 during this period.
