Petrol, diesel prices hiked for fourth consecutive day today; Hit the New High. Know Fuel Rates

Continuing the similar trend for four consecutive days, fuel rates across the country were again hiked by 35 paise on Saturday, October 23. This increase was accompanied by another high increase in the prices of the precious fuel, which is a matter of concern for the Indian citizens.

In the national capital Delhi, petrol was priced at Rs 107.24 per liter after 35 price hikes. Similarly, according to a price notification by Indian Oil Corporation, diesel rates were increased by the same amount and a liter of it was retailing at Rs 95.97.

Diesel prices crossed Rs 100 in the southern city of Chennai. On Saturday, the price of diesel was increased by 33 paise to Rs 100.25 per liter. At the same time, the price of petrol increased by 33 paise per liter to Rs 104.22.

In the financial capital Mumbai, the price of petrol increased by 34 paise to Rs 113.12 per liter. Diesel could be bought for Rs 104 in this metropolis, which is 37 paise more now.

Petrol in Kolkata was available at Rs 107.78 per liter, which was 34 paise expensive on Saturday. Diesel prices were hiked by Rs 99.08 per liter in the eastern city, which is 35 paise more expensive.

According to the price notification by state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs), Bhopal also saw a similar increase in fuel prices. In the capital of Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, petrol can be bought by 36 paise at Rs 115.90 per liter, while on the other hand diesel was being sold 38 paise expensive at Rs 105.27 per liter.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the Center over rising fuel prices and said the Narendra Modi-led government was playing a ‘brutal joke’ with Indian citizens. Stepping up his attack, the former Congress chief took to Twitter and said, “The Indian government is playing a cruel joke with our people. #TaxExtortion. Along with this, he attached a picture which reads, “Millionaire: One who can buy a complete tank in India.”

Amid opposition protests over hike in petrol and diesel rates, Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said the move was ‘axing its feet’, adding that such taxes have dented several government schemes.
