According to the latest notification issued by the oil marketing companies, there was no change in the price of petrol and diesel on October 3. Fuel prices in Indian cities have been stable for more than four months now. On May 21, the central government had reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per liter and Rs 6 per liter respectively. Following this announcement, the Maharashtra government announced a reduction in value-added tax of Rs 5 per liter on petrol and Rs 3 per liter on diesel.
Petrol in Delhi today costs Rs 96.72 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 106.31 per liter and diesel costs Rs 94.27 per liter in Mumbai. The price of petrol and diesel in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and Rs 92.76 per liter respectively. The cost of a liter of petrol in Chennai is Rs 102.63 per liter and the cost of a liter of diesel in Chennai is Rs 94.24 per litre.

Crude oil prices rose on Monday even after Indian fuel retailers did not reduce the prices of petrol and diesel. Brent crude was at $ 87.62 a barrel while WTI crude rose to $ 81.76 a barrel.
