Petrol, Diesel Prices Today: Fuel prices in metro cities remained unchanged for the 78th consecutive day on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

This is the second longest pause in prices since the introduction of the daily rate revision in June 2017. The longest stagnation in fuel prices was of 82 days between March 17 and June 6, 2020, when the country was under national lockdown.

Last month, the Delhi government reduced the value-added tax on petrol from 30 per cent to 19.40 per cent. With this, petrol prices in the national capital were reduced by Rs 8.56 per litre.

In Delhi, a liter of petrol costs Rs 95.41, while diesel costs Rs 86.67 per litre. Petrol in Mumbai is being sold at Rs 109.98 per liter, while diesel is being sold at Rs 94.14 per litre. Among metro cities, fuel rates are still the highest in Mumbai. Petrol and diesel prices in metro cities are as follows:

State-run oil refiners like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel rates on a daily basis, taking into account crude oil prices and rupee-dollar exchange rates in international markets. Any change in the prices of petrol and diesel is effective from 6 am every day.

Globally, oil prices fell this week after hitting a seven-year high, as a rise in US crude and fuel reserves prompted investors to take advantage of the rally. Brent crude futures fell $2.46, or 2.8 percent, to $85.92 a barrel. The contract had earlier fallen by 3 per cent, the highest since December 20. The global benchmark touched $89.50 a barrel on Thursday, the highest level since October 2014.
