However, around 4 pm, around 400 people gathered and demanded the release of Mohammad Sinan and PFI leaders. They allegedly raised slogans against the police.
After an interrogation, the police released Hameed and asked him to appear for further questioning. Soon, the PFI organized a victory rally and came back to the station demanding the release of the others. By then, prohibitory orders were imposed and efforts were made to persuade the protesters to disperse.
The police claimed that the members of the organization had collected stones and bottles in an ambulance. When the police were dispersing the crowd, Bantwal SI Prasanna Kumar was attacked with a knife. Puttur subdivision DSP Gan P Kumar was injured in stone pelting. The other injured were CPI Umesh Uppalik, PSI Omana and employees Kiran Kumar, Renuka, Sharif Nadaf, Seshadri and Harish.
