After reviewing the spread of COVID infection in the cities/towns/village areas, the District Collector shall have the right to close the schools/hostels for a certain period or impose any other restrictions.

The guidelines issued by Principal Home Secretary Abhay Kumar also said that “educational institutions should not pressurize parents to send their children to offline classes if they do not want to do so”.

However, students seeking offline classes (who wish to attend classes) will have to obtain written permission from their parents/guardians. All academic and non-academic staff in schools, colleges and universities should have received both doses of the vaccine.

Also, school vehicles will be allowed to ply according to their seating capacity. “RT-PCR test is a must for the students in the hostels run by these institutes. They should be released till the report comes,” it read. “Educational institutions should screen all academic and non-academic staff and students. They will be allowed inside only after the screening process. It is necessary to follow ‘No Mask, No Entry’. If they do not have masks, they should be provided by the institution. A distance of two yards should be followed for sitting in classes. It states that they should refrain from holding assembly sessions, meetings and other events. “The canteens within the premises of the institutions will remain closed till further orders. Daily cleaning of chairs and tables, railings, floors, door handles, public surfaces and stationery items is essential. Doors and windows should be kept open for proper ventilation,” the guidelines stated. If students, teachers or staff are found to have symptoms of COVID, they should be immediately sent in an ambulance to the nearest hospital or COVID centre.

“Parents are advised to inform the school/local administration if the students or their family members fall ill,” it said. Along with this, random sampling of students/staff should be done by the Health Department at regular intervals.

A nodal officer should be appointed by the district magistrate to ensure adherence to protocols in these institutions- Also, in view of the increase in the number of COVID cases, a Joint Enforcement Team (JET) SOP including officers from the district administration, police and Departments and civic bodies should be set up to conduct special drives in several areas to ensure compliance with fair practices.
