Pipeline Project: Road repair work in progress

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) on Wednesday said it has completed preliminary work on restoring a 900-metre stretch of road as part of a Rs 60-crore project to lay a new water supply pipeline from Perurkada to Manavila. .

Preliminary road restoration work after pipe laying on the Kudappankunnu-Krishna Nagar section has been completed.

The KWA said that as per the rules of the Public Works Department (PWD), the finalization of the road can be done only after three months of restoration. However, to reduce dust, the restored portion will be coated with tar.

The PSC pipeline from Perurkara to Manvila is one of the main pipelines carrying water in the city. However, the pipeline has become obsolete and leaks are likely, affecting the supply, KWA said. As a long-term solution, KWA had decided to replace it with a mild steel pipeline.

The pipeline project involves replacing the old pre-stressed concrete pipeline with a new mild steel one. The project is funded through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

KWA has started work on the 3 km stretch from Perurkara to Nalanchira in the first phase. The pipeline laying work is going on except in those places where rocks are present under the soil.
