Piyush Goyal says govt thinks like a startup… focusing on newer, better ideas

The minister appreciated the MAARG portal and said that it would help in focussing, refining and improving the ideas. He said that in line with this vision of the government, PM Modi had done away with the need to notarize documents by believing in the common man and it has never been misused. He urged the startups to suggest improvements to make the processes simple and economical. He also mentioned that more than 39,000 compliances have been reduced, sought suggestions on what more can be reduced to reduce the burden of compliance.

On this occasion, ‘National Startup Awards 2022 Report’ was also released on Monday. The report provides detailed information on past National Startup Awards recognized startups and assistance provided to National Startup Awards 2022 winners.

The MAARG platform, which stands for Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience and Growth, was also launched during the felicitation ceremony today. The platform has been envisioned to facilitate mentorship between startups and entrepreneurs across all sectors, stages and functions. Currently there are over 600 mentors and over 800 startups registered on the platform. As per the ministry statement, the portal will now allow live matchmaking of mentors with startups.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) conceived the National Startup Awards to recognize and reward outstanding startups. The awards recognize exceptional startups in various categories that provide innovative solutions for large scale employment and sustainable economic growth. Thirty-six startups, one incubator and one accelerator were recognized as winners in their respective categories.

The third edition of National Startup Awards was launched on February 1, 2022. In line with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the National Startup Awards 2022 felicitates startups and enablers who have been instrumental in revolutionizing India’s growth story and not just demonstrated exceptional capabilities. Not only in terms of financial gain but also for measurable impact on society.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the National Startup Awards 2022 broadly focuses on diversity, inclusion and innovation. The sectors and sub-sectors covered under the National Startup Awards 2022 have been increased from the previous editions to 17 and 50 respectively, thereby increasing the coverage of the startup ecosystem. Two sectors, five sub-sectors and two special categories have been added in this edition. Two new special categories have been added to further encourage manufacturing excellence and startup startups from the North Eastern and hilly states and union territories.

According to the ministry, a total of 2,667 applications were received from startups, incubators and accelerators from 31 states and union territories across the country. These applications were screened and evaluated by more than 50 jury members. The jury members include senior government officials, venture capitalists, startup CEOs, industry leaders and renowned academicians.
