‘Pizza Topping’ was trending on Twitter India. why over here

A report on the fact that pizza is set to attract more Goods and Services Tax (GST) on toppings than Pizza Let the very popular dish of Italian origin itself go for the longest run on microblogging site Twitter for the most part of Tuesday.

Here is a detailed look at the matter

A recent decision stated that Pizza toppings To be taxed at a higher rate of 18% than pizza, which is taxed at 5%. a report by The Economic Times He said that the GST rates on pizzas are decided on the basis of how they are prepared and where they are sold.

This means that while pizza prepared and sold in restaurants attracts 5% GST, pizza that is home-delivered attracts 18% GST, It is also stated that the pizza base, purchased separately, is taxable at the rate of 12% as per GST norms.

The confusion arose after the Haryana Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling (AAAR) said that pizza toppings are not pizza and thus should be classified separately for GST purposes.

The authority on March 10 said that the method of preparation of pizza toppings is different from that of pizza, and thus should be taxed at 18% in the category of ‘food preparation’.

This can complicate the taxation process for many popular food chains and eateries selling pizza through the dine out or takeaway mode.
