‘Plan to win 2023 elections independently’

JD(S) to introduce programs for health, education and agriculture by January 2022

Even though he expressed confidence of the party doing well in the upcoming bypolls in Hangal and Sindagi, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said the main focus of the JD(S) was to win the 2023 assembly elections in Karnataka independently.

Participating in an interaction with journalists organized by the Mysore District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) here on Sunday, Mr Kumaraswamy said the bypolls would help in the organizational work of the party, which has a strategy to come to power in the state. Be it BJP or Congress.

He said the party had started preparations for the 2023 assembly elections about 18 months ago and referred to a seven-day workshop organized by his party in Bidadi earlier this month. A total of 126 shortlisted candidates were directed to start work in their respective constituencies.

As part of Vision 123, a strategy to win at least 123 seats in the next assembly election, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the JD(S) would face people’s programs for health, education and agriculture among other sectors by January 2022. will present. While programs in the field of education envisage a strategy to help children pay for fees and support their education, programs in the field of agriculture will ensure that farmers do not fall into the debt trap. However, he said the party was campaigning for the victory of its candidates in the by-elections to Hangal and Sindgi assembly constituencies. Mr Kumaraswamy said the party has a chance to win especially in Sindgi, where the Congress has been at the third position for the last 20 years. He argued that the fight has always been between the JD(S) and the BJP.

In Hangal, the party has fielded an M.Tech graduate, who is campaigning fiercely in villages. Though it got only 1,200 votes in the last elections, late BJP minister CM Udasi, who represented the constituency, was earlier with the JD(S), Mr Kumaraswamy pointed out. Still, he said the campaign would help lay the foundation for the party’s victory in a triangular contest in the 2023 elections.

He accused the Congress and the BJP of indulging in campaigning in the two constituencies by claiming to be taking up development works. “But, if you visit the constituencies, you will bow your head in shame”, he claimed, adding that the villages did not have proper roads, underground drainage system or toilets.

He regretted that with all the ministers in the poll-bound assembly constituencies, Vidhana Soudha has almost been closed, making people’s grievances high and dry.
