Plea to reduce hospital visits amid rise in COVID-19 cases

JIPMER has appealed to patients with minor ailments to avoid visiting the hospital and urged them and their attendants to ensure that they do not double their duty during their visit as part of COVID-19 containment measures. Get vaccinated and wear a mask.

JIPMER director Rakesh Agarwal said in a press note that the recent sharp rise in fresh COVID-19 cases across the country was a cause for great concern, particularly worrying was the fact that the large number of these cases was caused by the highly permeable Omicron variant. , Apart from this, this strain is also causing infection in already infected people. Given the risks involved, everyone is advised to take all possible precautions to avoid getting infected with this new strain.

As the number of individuals with COVID-19, particularly omicrons, has increased, it is not possible to completely avoid overcrowding in large hospitals. It may be useful for patients with minor and non-serious illnesses to avoid going to hospitals as their risk of becoming infected will be reduced.

For minor ailments, patients are requested to contact the nearest doctor or a nearby small hospital as far as possible. Patients on long-term drugs are also requested to obtain their monthly supply of medicines from the local dispensary or from a generic pharmacy like Jan Aushadhi.

As per the Puducherry Union Territory government’s directive, all patients visiting JIPMER and their attendants are expected to take two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and follow the requirement of showing proof of proof.

It is also necessary that the patients and their attendants strictly follow the standard COVID-19 precautions of social distancing and hygiene. They should wear a well-fitting mask, which extends from the top of the nose to the bottom of the chin. In addition, they should avoid eating in hospital areas, Jipmer said.
