Plea to start off-campus centers in the Gulf

State government issues NOC to MG University

Calicut University authorities have been urged to restart offshore campuses in Gulf countries after the state government issued a no-objection certificate to Mahatma Gandhi University to start such centers in Qatar with the permission of the University Grants Commission.

Syndicate member P. Rashid Ahmed, in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, said that the university had operated offshore centers in Gulf countries.

These centers helped him earn a degree without having to move to Kerala. However, they were reportedly locked up following a petition filed by Godwin Samaraj, principal of Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode.

Mr. Ahmed urged the university to approach the government for NOC.

He said that reopening of closed centers or starting new campuses afresh should be considered.
