The Prime Minister along with Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai flagged off South India’s first Vande Bharat Express and Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan train between Mysore-Chennai via Bengaluru.

The Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai Vande Bharat Express is part of the 75 Vande Bharat Express trains that are expected to run across India by the end of 2023.

Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan train offers 8-day tour packages for pilgrims at concessional rates and will cover Varanasi, Ayodhya and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The Government of Karnataka has announced a subsidy of ₹5,000 for the pilgrims of Kashi Yatra.

The Prime Minister, who arrived at the HAL airport in the morning, was received by the Governor of Karnataka, Thaawar Chand Gehlot and Mr. Bommai. Shri Modi made a brief stop at Vidhana Soudha to pay homage to Kanakadas and Valmiki before going to Krantiveer Sangoli Rayanna Railway Station to flag off Vande Bharat Express and Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan train.

What is special about Vande Bharat Express train?

In the Union Budget for 2022-23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed the development and construction of 400 new Vande Bharat Express trains over the next three years, which will run in different parts of India.

Vande Bharat Express train is manufactured under ‘Make in India’ program at Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. Vande Bharat Express train is an indigenously designed and manufactured semi-high speed, self-propelled train which is touted as the next big leap for Indian Railways in terms of speed and passenger convenience since the introduction of Rajdhani trains.

Ticket Price, Mysore-Chennai Vande Bharat Express Train Route

For passengers traveling to Mysore from Chennai Central Railway Station, the fare will be ₹1,200 for economy and ₹2,295 for working class. From Mysore to Chennai, the fare is ₹1,365 in economy and ₹2,485 for working class.

The train will cover the distance of 497 kms between Mysore and Chennai in 6 hrs 39 mins. In between, the train will stop at Katpadi in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru in Karnataka.

Passenger Amenities in Vande Bharat Express Train

The Vande Bharat Express train has an intelligent braking system, which enables better acceleration and deceleration. All coaches are equipped with automatic doors; GPS based audio-visual passenger information system, on-board hotspot Wi-Fi for entertainment and comfortable seating. There are revolving chairs in the working class.

Vande Bharat Express is designed to run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph.

All toilets are of bio-vacuum type. Lighting is dual mode – diffused for general illumination and individual for each seat.

“Every coach has a pantry with facilities for serving hot food, hot and cold drinks. According to South Western Railway (SWR), the insulation is meant to keep heat and noise to a very low level for additional passenger comfort.

The inaugural special train has 16 coaches consisting of 14 chair cars and two executive class chair cars. The train can seat 1,128 passengers.

With regard to green footprint, Vande Bharat Express coaches have regenerative braking system, which can save up to 30% of electrical energy. Vande Bharat Express train has completely sealed gangways and censored interconnecting doors for dust free environment

Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan Train

Shri Modi also flagged off the Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan train for Banaras (Varanasi) which is scheduled to reach Banaras (Varanasi) on 13th November at 4 PM. It will run via Birur, Davangere, Hubli, Pune and Miraj.

This train is operated by Muzrai Department of Karnataka under Bharat Gaurav Train Policy of Ministry of Railways.

In the return direction, Train No. 06554 Banaras – KSR Bengaluru Bharat Gaurav Darshan Yatra train will depart from Banaras at 5.30 am on 15 November and reach Bengaluru at 6.40 pm on 18 November. This train will have a tourist stop in Ayodhya and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

This train will have 14 coaches. The Karnataka government will give a subsidy of Rs 5,000 on rent.
