NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that Aligarh, which was known for making locks to protect homes, will now play an important role in safeguarding the country’s borders.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh Universities in Aligarh, PM Modi He said that India will not only become self-reliant in defense matters but also become a major exporter in this sector.

“The university will focus on modern education and emerge as a center of defense studies and defense research,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also visited the exhibition model of the Aligarh node of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor.
In 2018, PM Modi had announced the establishment of a Defense Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh while inaugurating UP Investors Summit in Lucknow.
A total of 6 nodes – Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Jhansi and Lucknow have been planned in the Defense Industrial Corridor.

The corridor will help in making the country self-reliant in the field of defense production and promote ‘Make in India’.
Prime Minister said that Defense Corridor in Aligarh And the Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University will soon replace the Western Uttar Pradesh.

India is one of the top 5 military spenders and one of the emerging defense manufacturing hubs in the world. To support the development of the defense sector, two Defense Industrial Corridors are being established in India, one in Uttar Pradesh and the other in Tamil Nadu.
