PM Modi calls upon private companies to enter the medical sector in a big way

Noting that Indian students are moving to many smaller countries for medical education despite the language barrier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the private sector to make a bigger presence in the sector.

Speaking at a webinar on the Union Budget announcements on the health sector, Modi suggested that state governments should also formulate “good policies” for land allocation for medical education so that India can generate large numbers of doctors to meet the global demand. and produce paramedics.

His remarks assume significance at a time when a large number of Indian students, many of whom are studying medicine, are stuck in Ukraine following the Russian attack on that country.

However, Modi did not make any direct mention of the crisis.

The Prime Minister said that as Indian students go abroad to study, especially in medical education, hundreds of billions of rupees also flow out of the country.

“Our children today are going to smaller countries to study, especially for medical education. There is a language problem. They are still going … Can’t our private sector enter this field in a big way? Can our state governments not make good infrastructure policies for land allotment in this regard,” he asked.

Stating that India can greatly benefit from its demographic dividend in this field, he said Indian doctors have enhanced the prestige of the country across the world with their work over the past several decades.

In the webinar, Modi also highlighted his government’s efforts to provide quality health and wellness services to the people.

He said that the government is working with the spirit of “One India One Health” so that people from remote places can get quality healthcare.
