PM Modi dedicates development projects in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated several development projects to the nation in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh.

“These projects will help in alleviating the issue of water scarcity in the area and will provide much needed relief to the farmers. These projects include Arjun Sahayak Project, Ratoli Weir Project, Bhauni Dam Project and Mazagon-Chilli Spraying Project. The cumulative cost of these projects is more than Rs. 3250 crores and their operation will help irrigate about 65000 hectares of land in Mahoba, Hamirpur, Banda and Lalitpur districts, which will benefit lakhs of farmers of the region,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

PM Modi has been inaugurating projects in the election state of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this week, he inaugurated the 341 km long six-lane wide Purvanchal Expressway. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government is also pushing for major infrastructure projects in the state, such as 22,500 crore Purvanchal Expressway aims to provide road connectivity to eastern Uttar Pradesh. Industrial townships are being planned along the expressway to provide employment to youth and market access to farmers.

“Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister wished for the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who awakened a new consciousness in India in that era of slavery. He also celebrated the birth anniversary of Rani Laxmibai, the pride of Bundelkhand, the brave daughter of India.

As part of its efforts to attract investments to the state, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has leveraged its industrial policy and prepared a roadmap to attract investors. The state government is working on policy highlights such as creating land banks, promoting country-specific industrial parks and helping to set up private industrial parks to attract investors.

“They used to make announcements in the name of farmers, but not even a single penny reached the farmer. Whereas till now we have transferred from PM Kisan Samman Nidhi 1,62,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of farmers”, PM Modi said as per the statement.

PM Modi on Friday also announced the repeal of three agriculture laws enacted last year to open up the agriculture sector to greater private sector participation. The government will repeal the laws in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, PM Modi said in an address to the nation.

To win back the support of disgruntled farmers ahead of the last general election, the National Democratic Alliance government in its earlier budget announced an income support scheme for small farmers. Small and marginal farmers who have less than five acres (two hectares) of land get three installments 2,000 every year.
