Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron reviewed ongoing bilateral initiatives including defense cooperation projects and cooperation in civil nuclear energy on August 16, 2022. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that during the telephonic conversation, they also discussed important geopolitical challenges related to global food security.

“President @EmmanuelMacron and I also agreed to cooperate closely in responding to the global challenges of food and energy security,” he said.

The PMO statement also said that the leaders reviewed ongoing bilateral initiatives, including defense cooperation projects and cooperation in civil nuclear energy. The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the depth and strength of the India-French strategic partnership in recent years and agreed to continue to work together to expand the relationship into new areas of cooperation, the statement said.

Modi said on Monday that he was moved by Macron’s greetings on India’s Independence Day. India truly cherishes its close ties with France, and their bilateral partnership is for the global good, he had said.
