PM Modi in touch with Ukrainian President: Jyotiraditya Scindia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to on Saturday Ukraine The President conveyed India’s deep concern for the safety and security of Indian citizens including Volodymyr Zelensky and students present in Ukraine. The Prime Minister called for facilitation by the Ukrainian authorities for the speedy and safe evacuation of Indian nationals. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan welcomed the Indian nationals safely evacuated from Ukraine via Bucharest (Romania) at the Delhi airport.

Scindia says, “Prime Minister Modi is in touch with the President of Ukraine, talks are on to take everyone home safely.” Second evacuation flight from Romania’s capital Bucharest carrying 250 Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine at Delhi airport early on Sunday. But landed.

The first flight carrying 219 Indian students from Romania reached Mumbai on Saturday evening.

The third flight to Delhi with 240 Indian nationals has also taken off from Budapest in Hungary under Operation Ganga, informed External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

The students are in panic but the situation in Ukraine where we were staying (near the Romania border) was much better than in other areas, says a student who returned from Ukraine.

Another student said, the situation is bad in many places in Ukraine, civilians have taken up arms to save their country. Stockpiling had begun where I was living.

A total of 469 Indian nationals have been evacuated from war-torn Ukraine so far, out of which 200 reached Delhi on Sunday morning and 219 reached Mumbai on Saturday evening.

In an advisory to Indian nationals on Saturday, the embassy stressed that the situation at various border posts is sensitive and it is continuously working with embassies in neighboring countries for coordinated evacuation of our nationals.

“All Indian citizens in Ukraine are advised not to visit any border posts at border posts without prior coordination with Indian government officials and without emergency numbers of the Embassy of India, Kiev.”

“The Embassy is finding it difficult to help Indian nationals who reach the border posts without prior notice,” it added.
