By India Today Web DeskPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. IIM Shillong was established by the then Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) as the 7thth The IIMs, which can establish themselves as institutions of national importance and being known for academic discretion in management education, are serving the development of the North Eastern region in many ways.

Its new campus will have state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities that will open up numerous opportunities for hosting academic programs for both national and international students and management development work.

IIM Shillong’s Knowledge Center in the new campus will have one of the most fully automated libraries in India, with more than 40 databases accessible to students, scholars and faculty members in the form of e-resources. It will also provide access to over 17,000 e-journals to students, faculty and local policy makers and bureaucrats.

The campus will also provide high-speed internet access through optical-fibre, and will have sports and recreation centers such as football and cricket fields and basketball courts.

PM Modi In his speech, expressed that “Vocational institutes like IIM Shillong will be beneficial for NE region. The presence of such institutes will make way for ways and means of livelihood”.

“Today is a historic day for IIM Shillong as the Hon’ble Prime Minister inaugurated the new 120-acre campus. Because nature and education go hand-in-hand, the campus – known as the Campus in the Cloud – the lap of nature It is located in India and provides quality education”, said Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman Board of Governors, IIM Shillong.

With the integrated perspective of research and academic capabilities envisaged by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Global Glory Summit 2020, IIM Shillong signed MoUs with 16 international universities and will work towards global collaborations.

Established in 2007 as 7th IIM and its beginnings 1scheduled tribe Academic Programs on 4th July, 2008 with the objective of offering world class management education and research in the country. The mandate of the Institute is to provide all-round education to meet the demand for well-trained, high-caliber, innovative, socially responsible, environmentally conscious and compassionate management professionals.

Achievements of the students at IIM Shillong

With an enrollment of 63 students in the Post-Graduate Program (PGP) in 2008, IIM Shillong has grown to enroll 309 students and has now produced over 2,500 graduates working for leading companies around the world.

Alumni achievements at IIM Shillong include L’Oreal Brandstorm, ViproEarthion, Tata Steel-a-thon, CFA Ethics Challenge, PwC Challenge, Google Case Challenge, Titan Elevate and consecutive awardees of the Aditya Birla Scholarship. IIM-Shillong equips its students with the necessary skills to excel in the business world through hands-on training, hands-on experience and summer internships.
