PM Modi inspected the construction site of the new Parliament building late in the evening

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the construction site of the new Parliament House in New Delhi at around 8.45 pm on Sunday. He spent about an hour at the site and directly inspected the construction condition of the building.

The building’s construction is a part of the Modi government’s ambitious Central Vista project, which aims to redevelop a 3.2-km stretch in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi, built by the British in the 1930s.

Several photographs show PM Modi directly inspecting the construction site, which is expected to be completed by next year.

Redevelopment of the Central Vista, the country’s power corridor, a new Parliament building, a common Central Secretariat, revamp of the 3 km Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, the residence and office of the new Prime Minister, and a new one are envisaged. Vice President Enclave at a total cost of approx. 20,000 crores.

In 2019, the central government announced a redevelopment project to give a new identity to India’s ‘Power Corridor’. The plan envisages the construction of 10 building blocks along with a new Parliament, residences of the Prime Minister and the Vice President that will accommodate all government ministries and departments.

The project, which is expected to be completed by 2024, is being executed by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

On February 4 this year, the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of Central Vista Avenue was performed by the then Union Minister of State for Independent Charge Hardeep S Puri and other senior officials of the Ministry at India Gate, New Delhi.

With this ceremony the work of development/redevelopment of Central Vista Avenue started.

According to a press statement by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Central Vista Avenue starts from the North and South Blocks to India Gate. It consists of Rajpath, its adjoining lawns and canals, tree rows, Vijay Chowk and India Gate Plaza which is 3 kilometers long. It was originally designed as a grand procession route for the Viceroy’s House during the British Raj. It was appropriated by the people of India and their government at the time of independence.

Govt approves proposal for development of Central Vista Avenue with estimated cost 608 crores as on November 10, 2020. Necessary permissions have been obtained from Delhi Urban Art Commission, Heritage Conservation Committee, Central Vista Committee, Local Bodies etc.
